Cancel researches and teaches African oral and written literatures
and traditions, African cinema, and Caribbean literature. His research
interests also lie in the political, historical and social aspects

A veteran of independent film and video, Davis has produced numerous award-winning works since receiving her master of fine arts in film and video production from UCLA in 1989. Ferree studies the politics of democracy; ethnic politics; and elections,
especially in developing countries. She is an expert in South African
politics and democracy in Africa; and has done extensive field research

Frymer, Associate Professor of Sociology
Frymer is interested in race, American politics, and law. He has written
Uneasy Alliances: Race and Party Competition in America which focuses,
among other things, on the relationship between African Americans

McIntosh, Assistant Professor,
Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies
McIntosh specializes in quantitative impact analysis, and the development
of credit markets for the poor in Latin America and East Africa. He
speaks Kiswahili and has expertise in the political and economic development

J. Moore, Associate Professor of Anthropology
Moore works primarily on nonhuman primate socioecology. He is one
of a growing number of scientists who have suggested that the AIDS
virus most likely dates back to the 1930s, when it crossed over from
chimpanzees to humans in central West Africa. His current work focuses
on chimpanzee adaptation to low population densities in savanna habitats,
with fieldwork in Ugalla and Tanzania. More…

Cultures in Comparative Perspective
Pellow’s primary disciplines are sociology and ethnic studies, and
his areas of research focus on environmental conflict in ethnic communities

Woodruff, Professor of Biology
Woodruff, an evolutionary biologist and conservation geneticist, can
discuss animal species evolution and endangered species conservation.
He is an expert on non-invasive genotyping, and his studies have included
developing a method of using DNA from dung to census African forest
