James Andreoni,
Professor of Economics
James Andreoni studies a variety of topics, but most involve altruistic or moral decision making. His research employs economic theory, experiments, and standard analysis of survey data. A constant interest is charitable behavior, including the interactions among individuals, and between individuals, charities, and the government. He also studies altruistic decisions in the laboratory.

Amy Binder,
Associate Professor of Sociology
Amy Binder’s principal research interests are in the areas of education, social movements, cultural sociology, and organizations. She is also the Director of the Public Service Minor through Thurgood Marshall College, and has been involved in various activities with The Preuss School — UC San Diego’s award-winning charter middle and high school for first generation college-goers.

Michael Kalichman,
Adjunct Professor of Pathology
The primary focus of Michael Kalichman's teaching, research, and service is in research ethics. He is an adjunct professor of Pathology; he first taught about research ethics in 1988. After teaching a variety of courses and seminars in research ethics for graduate students and postdocs, he became the founding director of the UC San Diego Research Ethics Program in 1997.

Hugh “Bud” Mehan,
Professor of Sociology and Director of CREATE
Hugh Mehan is Professor of Sociology and Director of The Center for Research on Educational Equity, Access, and Teaching Excellence (CREATE) at UC San Diego, appointments that link his commitments to research and practice. CREATE coordinates efforts at UC San Diego to improve the academic preparation of under-represented students in the community through partnerships with K-12 schools and districts and the Preuss School, UC San Diego’s on-campus model charter school.

and Adjunct Professor of Sociology
Michael Schudson has researched and written about the sociology of news, the power of the news media in shaping public knowledge and cultural behavior, the role of journalists in the democratic process, and the meaning of a good citizen and the history of American civic life.
